Saturday, October 28, 1pm to 3pm
The Ashtanga Yoga Tradition: Introduction to the Practice

This workshop will focus on introducing current and new yoga practitioners to the physical practice of Ashtanga Yoga. The workshop will break down Surya Namaskar A & B, Chaturanga and Floating or Hovering in Jump Through transitions from your Surya Namaskars. Students will gain knowledge on breath (pranayama) awareness, the importance of alignment, gaze (drishti) and posture (asana). We invite you to explore and join the practice with a creative, open mind and body.

The workshop will offer the opportunity for self exploration and individual guidance from the instructor. The workshop will offer time to learn any specific yoga postures (asana) or techniques to include arm balances, handstands, chaturanga progressions, transitions such as jump throughs & jump backs from seated. Come to explore, learn and grow with others!

Sunday, October 29, 1:30pm to 3:30 pm
The Ashtanga Yoga Tradition: Introduction to the Philosophy

Come and learn the rich philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga. The workshop will 1) Explore the Ashtanga Mantras and discuss the importance of sound in the yoga practice; 2) Explore the Ujjayi Breath & Gaze (Drishti) - importance of Breath & Gaze; and 3) The History of Yoga & Ashtanga Yoga. Come and learn the relation to India, the different styles of Yoga & their origin, and the main difference between ancient yoga practice and the modern yoga practice.

The last portion of the workshop will be a mix of seminar and lecture, where the students will be free to openly ask questions. It is highly encouraged to ask questions, as this will allow you to understand your individual yoga practice and how it fits in with that of the Traditional. Come with questions, creativity and time for discussion.

About the Instructor

Baldeep Singh Pooni is an Ashtanga Yoga Teacher, trained in India. Baldeep was born in the USA but his parents are from Punjab,India. Baldeep's passion for teaching is rooted in being deeply connected to Indian mysticism, forever a student creating self and community healing & growth. One of Baldeep's main mission is revival of The Ancestral Indian Yogic System, without influence from Colonialism or Western culture. The route to this revival is by having greater representation and participation from Indian Yoga Teacher and students in the USA and the Western World. Baldeep was raised in the Indian culture of mysticism and diverse spiritual systems. Being introduced to the deeper elements of Yoga & Ayurveda from childhood.
